You might think that because you’re a Mac user that you’re immune from viruses and other malware attacks. Take note: After years of belittling Windows’ poor security record, Apple is quietly “encouraging” OSX users to protection themselves. In a brief knowledge base article on its support site, Apple suggests that running security software might not be a bad idea.
“Apple encourages the widespread use of multiple antivirus utilities so that virus programmers have more than one application to circumvent, thus making the whole virus writing process more difficult,” they say, before going on to recommend three security apps: Intego VirusBarrier X5; Symantec Norton Anti-Virus 11; & McAfee VirusScan - Mac editions of course.
Macintosh operating systems are still safer overall, but experts agree that Apple security breaches are bound to rise along with Apple’s market share.
So enjoy your Mac - but don’t be too smug. No computer connected to the Internet is 100 percent immune to viruses and spyware.
